Motivational Tidbits

My youngest daughter is hands-down one of the most amazing human beings on the planet. I'm not biased at all, really. At 17 years old, she is more wise than most adults I know. Her tenderness, strength, resolve and love for others is unmatched. Recently, she had to write her own "Last Lecture". Randy Pausch originally delivered his own "Last Lecture" speech to Carnegie Mellon University in 2007. This was a high school project, and she asked me to read it. I was blown away, as were all of my friends and family.

I give to you, The Last Lecture, as written by Sarah.

Be happy

It’s not as hard as you think

Smile as much as you can and wave to strangers

Say

“Thank you”

But don’t forget to cry

Cry when you need to

Or when you don’t

Watch sad movies

Fall in love

With everything

But say what you want

Be honest

Love your enemies and remember

You are one too

It will be okay.

Don’t spend too much time in reality

It’s scary there

Read books, plural

Keep a journal

You’ll want to know yourself one day

***** But don’t make yourself write

Avoid stress

Remember that those who struggle have not quit

And it will be okay.

Go the speed limit and you’ll get there

Alive

Don’t get caught up in politics

They aren’t that caught up in you

Buy things you want

If you have the money or if you don’t

Nobody really saves anyway

Try to stay away from preservatives and GMOs

But go to Bruster’s when you want it

Try to take your own advice

Its good stuff

Actually study

You don’t know it that well

But if you fail

It will be okay.

Look at the stars

Realize how small you are

But don’t forget your significance

Be heartbroken

Listen to sad songs and move on

But don’t forget how it feels

Try not to fight God

He will keep fighting for you

Listen to people

They are talking for a reason

Be kind to your friends

Say sorry even if they know you are

Accept humility

It will be okay.

Take selfies and

Don’t take anyone’s crap

Let people take pictures of you

You. Are not. Ugly

Laugh out loud

It’s beautiful

Go out on weeknights

Dance by yourself

Don’t drink too much

You are more fun without it

If you are prescribed to take medicine

Take it

Your health is not a joke

Don’t work too hard

Get enough sleep but

If you wake up late

It will be okay.

Ladies

If he doesn’t open the door for you

Walk away

It’s not your job to train him

Chivalry is alive and well

Be yourself from the first date and

Accept compliments

Guys

Make good conversation

Live in the present because the future is

Now

Someone relies on you

Someone knows your struggle

Someone wants to share your happiness

Someone… will always want to hurt you

But it will be okay.
